A first grade girl at Glenwood elementary school in the town of Millburn-Short Hills, New Jersey, has done a remarkably selfless thing. Instead of getting presents for her seventh birthday, Gillian asked that all of her friends and family make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to an animal shelter. Gillian explained, "It made me so sad to hear that there were sick animals out there without food and I know that the Make-A-Wish Foundation gives all of their money away to sick kids, so I thought that they might need some." Gillian represents a noteworthy side of the Millburn Short Hills area. Although the town is affluent and beautiful, children who are raised here do not grow up in a bubble, unaware of the outside world. The significant generosity exhibited by Gillian shows that even young children in the Millburn Short Hills area are well aware of how lucky they are to live in such a nice place. Gillian took this knowledge a step further by trying to share her luck with those less fortunate. This act of selflessness reflects the values of the area. The Millburn Short Hills area is a community with a heart. Those looking to purchase a home in this area will be happy to know that children are educated in a school system with a strong sense of community. Gillian's generosity shows that important values, like giving back to the community and appreciating what one has are instilled at an early age.
