As a realtor and resident in Millburn/Short Hills, I am never surprised when potential new homeowners come to me with questions about the township. Whether they want to know about Millburn High School (the number one public high school in the state of New Jersey), the luxurious homes or the beautiful natural scenery, I always have positive things to tell them. Potential new homeowners with children are especially interested in investing in real estate in the township of Millburn/Short Hills because children in this community have such outstanding opportunities. For example, just this summer, two rising Millburn High School seniors participated in the Career Exploration Internship Program. The two students, Anne Salorio and Robert Klener, worked with nonprofit organizations. Salorio worked with the National Council of Jewish Women in Livingston and Klener with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Union and the Valerie Fund at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. The National Council of Jewish Women helps women facing adversity, such as divorce, domestic violence or unemployment, to find a better quality of life. It is Salorio’s first volunteer experience of this nature and she loved it, considering her work exciting and important. Klener spent his last summer volunteering in Ecuador. At the Make-A-Wish Foundation he helped to grant terminally ill children the opportunity to make a dream reality, such as a vacation or chance to meet an idol. While working at The Valerie Fund, Klener got to help with providing healthcare services for youths fighting cancer and other blood disorders. Students like Salorio and Klener exemplify the excellence of Millburn High School. Not only are this township’s students dedicated to academics, but they are encouraged and eager to benefit their community and the less fortunate.
