Millburn/Short Hills Working Mother’s Network

One of the most helpful services the town of Millburn/Short Hills has provided me as a real estate agent and as a community member has been the Working Mothers Listserv. When new homeowners move to Millburn/Short Hills, this service can be very useful. The co-leaders of the group are Isabel Goldfaden and Jodi Rosenberg. They explain: "The group is a network for women who strive to make the most of their careers, parenting and personal lives. Through communication and/or relationships with other working moms, members discover effective and enjoyable ways to balance and manage their multiple responsibilities and needs."

Goldfaden elaborated on this statement, explaining that "these needs may be as a mother, woman or in their career. We all hope to support and encourage each other with information on all aspects of being a working mother." This group is very beneficial for the Millburn/Short Hills Community at large. The group allows all listserv members to forward information about events in the community to each other. For example, reminders are consistently posted about voting days and times; links will be provided about issues such as school bonds, commercial development in the area, school events/changes in the schedule, etc.

This listserv is invaluable for the working mothers of the community. Goldfaden mentioned that as a mother who works full time, the group allows her to keep in touch with other women in the community on a daily basis even though she is unable to physically be there. Since PTO meetings and volunteer groups often take place during the day, it is difficult for her to participate in them. This group makes it easier for her to stay involved, because she can participate when it's convenient to her. "It allows me to volunteer my time (on my schedule) and be involved with a very lively, interesting and well educated group of people in my community without sacrificing my time with my family or work. Without the group I would feel somewhat isolated (especially in the winter). I leave for my office in Somerset County at 6:30am and come home at 6pm. I spend the evening with my family, get ready for the next day and go to sleep early". Goldfaden's dedication and appreciation of the listserv is an indication of how precious a resource it is to the community. New homeowners will be happy to hear that no matter what their schedule or situation is; they will have resources such as the working mother's listserv to keep them in the loop.
